1946 Australian Sixpence Necklace

80 years old and still looking pretty good! 

This genuine 1946 Australian sixpence has certainly been around a while. Once everyday currency, it's now found itself a new home inside a decorative Zamak alloy bezel.

I've added a Tibetan-style alloy bail and threaded a 60cm stainless steel chain through it. Nothing too fussy, just a lovely way to show off an old coin with plenty of history behind it.

Simple, meaningful and definitely not something you'll find in every jewellery shop.

In 1946, Australia was finding its feet after World War II. Families were rebuilding their lives, and this sixpence was part of everyday life.

It continued as Australian currency until decimalisation in 1966.

I love taking something that once had such an ordinary job and turning it into something worth keeping.

Who knows where this coin has been over the past 80 years? Now it gets to make a few more memories.
